The Marseille Soap
Marseille Soap is the oldest hygenic soap used in France. It is a 100% natural multi-purposes cleaner with wonderful moisturising and nourishing power. It is good for washing our face, body, hair and clothes, specially underwear and babywear. For men, the soap and its foam can be used for shaving. This soap is characterised by its method of production, the fact that it is prepared in a cauldron, as inspired by Aleppo soap, a soap manufactured since antiquity based on olive and bay laurel oil.
The recipe will have crossed the Mediterranean to land in Marseilles where it will soon be adopted. The oldest city in France had back then all the resources necessary for its manufacturing: olive trees in abundance, salt, salicorn that would be reduced in ashes (to obtain crystals of soda) and coal to heat the whole.
The first soap-makers made their appearance in the 14th century and techniques were refined, allowing Marseille to become the main supplier of soap from several countries in Europe. The exclusive use of 72% olive oil in its manufacture as a permanent concern of quality will make the Marseille soap famous.
